As the UK's largest urban regeneration scheme, York Central will go through many stages of planning to design and build an inclusive and accessible place for everyone.
Phase 1C Reserved Matters Planning Approval Granted
York Central is a major redevelopment project on a size and scale not seen before in York. To ensure that York Central is designed as place that local and visitors love, there are several stages of outline and detailed planning that have taken place, with more to come in the future.
As the strategic development partners of York Central, we submitted a reserved matters planning application for phase 1C of the proposed development in December 2025.
We are pleased to share that planning approval was granted at the City of York Council’s planning committee in September 2026. You can view full details of the phase 1C planning application on the planning portal here.
As part of the planning process, we consulted extensively with stakeholders, including specialist interest groups York Civic Trust and York Access Forum. A public drop-in consultation event was held to share more information about our plans and the local community also had the opportunity to give online feedback on our proposals.
Previous planning stages:
Outline planning consent for the York Central masterplan was granted in 2019. Reserved matters planning for both Museum Square and the Government Hub were subsequently granted in 2024.
