The York Central team welcomed 230 people to a planning consultation event to share plans for Phase 1 of York's brand new city quarter.

York Central Phase 1 Planning Consultation Event at National Railway Museum

On Monday 6th October 2025, we held a community planning consultation event to share plans for Phase 1 of this exciting regeneration project in the heart of York.

Anyone at the event or those unable to attend are encouraged to view the latest plans online to find out more.

Ahead of a formal reserved matters planning application being submitted to City of York Council in November, we are proactively engaging with the local community on the latest phase of proposals to create a new city quarter that everyone can be proud of.

This phase of delivery at York Central will include 999 new homes, at least 20% of which will be affordable, office and retail space, a hotel and a brand-new western station entrance, as well as a public park and extensive public realm, and fits in within the parameters of the approved outline planning permission for the whole site granted in 2019.

The well attended consultation session was held at the National Railway Museum where members of our development team were on hand to explain the plans and answer questions. People attended from the local communities around the site, as well as stakeholders and those with specialist interests in the project.

This consultation forms part of our ongoing engagement programme which has included two community drop-in sessions held earlier this year, attendance at several ward councillor meetings, as well as close liaison with local interest groups, including the York Access Forum and York Civic Trust.

"It was great to see so many people at this consultation session, as engaging with the local community and groups across York is vitally important to us, and to the success of this exciting development. We would encourage people to look at all the consultation material on our website as we make progress on delivering this brand-new city quarter for York." - Tom Gilman, Managing Director of McLaren Regeneration

As joint venture, our development team, McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate, is working in close partnership with Homes England, Network Rail, City of York Council and the National Railway Museum to deliver York Central which has the potential to generate 6,500 jobs and grow York’s future economy by 20%, by adding £1.16bn GVA to the city.

All Phase 1 planning consultation material and the ability to feedback are available on our York Central planning page.
